Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to working collaboratively with the judiciary and legislative arms. He emphasized that this partnership is essential in maintaining an efficient and functional system of governance. As Governor Makinde’s administration enters its sixth year, he expressed gratitude for the harmonious relationship his government has fostered with the judiciary.

These sentiments were conveyed as Governor Makinde administered the Oath of Allegiance and Judicial Oath to the newly-appointed President of the Oyo State Customary Court of Appeal, Honourable Justice Tajudeen Mohammed Abdulganiyu.

Addressing the attendees at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office in Agodi, Ibadan, Governor Makinde assured that his administration would not waver in its commitment to enhance the justice system in the state. The appointment of Justice Abdulganiyu was carried out through a transparent process, void of any political, religious, or ethnic biases.

Governor Makinde charged Justice Abdulganiyu to exercise fairness and integrity in his position while cultivating further development in the institution. He remarked, “We have just witnessed the swearing-in ceremony of the President of the Customary Court of Appeal, Oyo State. Justice Abdulganiyu is a Muslim and hails from Igbeti. However, in Oyo State, we prioritize due process and merit. We do not consider individuals’ origins. The Chief Judge is from Ibadan, the President of the Customary Court of Appeal of Oyo State is from Oke-Ogun, and the Deputy Governor is also from Oke-Ogun. Justice Abdulganiyu’s appointment adhered to the appropriate protocols, without shortcuts.”

Furthermore, the governor encouraged young people to remain focused on their ambitions and not succumb to distractions along their life’s journey. Drawing inspiration from Justice Abdulganiyu’s personal experiences, Governor Makinde emphasized the importance of patience and perseverance in achieving long-lasting success. “My message to the younger generation is this: do not seek quick wealth in life. True accomplishments require time and the process can be highly competitive,” he added.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, Justice Abdulganiyu avowed to champion the promotion and enforcement of customary laws, which he affirmed are equal in stature to English laws. He also assured the people of Oyo State that he would prioritize functionalizing the Customary Court to ensure its preservation and relevance. The event was attended by esteemed dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barrister Bayo Lawal; Speaker of the Oyo House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin; Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Iyabo Yerima; Secretary to the State Government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo, and other notable government officials.
