Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has assured residents that his administration will intensify efforts to improve their lives in 2025. He promised decisive actions to boost residents’ purchasing power and alleviate economic hardships.

In his New Year message broadcast on the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS), and reiterated during a crossover service at Livingspring Chapel International, Ibadan, the governor pledged to deliver on the mandate entrusted to him by the people.

Governor Makinde outlined key projects for the year, including upgrading the Ibadan Airport to international status, advancing the Ibadan Circular Road project, and intensifying public education and enlightenment initiatives. He also emphasized enforcing the rule of law, particularly in addressing traffic violations.

Reflecting on the challenges of 2024, Makinde noted that the year tested the resilience of Oyo State residents. He highlighted economic difficulties, inflation, and tragic incidents such as the Bodija explosion and the Islamic High School stampede, which claimed 35 lives.

“These tragedies forced us to reassess our strategies and policies,” Makinde said. “In response to the Bodija incident, we enacted Executive Order 001, 2024, to ensure the safe handling and storage of harmful substances. We also supported affected families and will do even more in 2025.”

Despite these challenges, the governor lauded efforts to transform Oyo State into an economic hub, attracting investments from Africorp Consortium and Shell Nigeria Gas. He also celebrated the commissioning of the first phase of the Independent Power Project and the commencement of the second agribusiness industrial hub in Eruwa.

Acknowledging the struggles of 2024, Makinde expressed optimism for 2025. “We look forward to a year of turnaround. We are committed to actions that will ease economic pressures and empower our people,” he said.

The governor urged residents to support his administration’s initiatives and pledged to enhance public awareness through education and technology. “We remain thankful for the opportunity to serve and optimistic about a prosperous 2025,” Makinde concluded.
