In a major boost to the security architecture of Oyo State, Governor ‘Seyi Makinde on Wednesday presented six newly-upgraded Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) to the Nigeria Police, Oyo State Command, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the protection of lives and property.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Barr. Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, handed over the APCs at the Governor’s Office Car Park, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan. He said the refurbished carriers are part of the broader strategy to strengthen security across the state.
“As a government, we understand that the security of lives and property is essential to the stability and progress of Oyo State,” the governor said. “These APCs complement our efforts to build a robust security framework. Beyond land operations, we are also scaling up with plans to acquire two surveillance aircraft.”

Governor Makinde emphasized that the investment in security is a deliberate and necessary priority, noting that the state would not rely solely on federal intervention but would continue to play an active role in ensuring safety and order.
He charged the police to deploy the APCs efficiently and collaborate with other security agencies to maintain peace throughout the state.
Responding to the presentation, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Johnson Adenola, praised the governor’s proactive approach, describing Makinde as “one of the most security-conscious governors in Nigeria.”
“These APCs will significantly enhance our operational capability,” CP Adenola said. “With this support, we will intensify the fight against kidnapping, armed robbery, and other forms of crime. Oyo residents can be assured of improved safety and can sleep with their two eyes closed.”
He added that while the APCs were handed over to the police, they would be available for joint operations with other security agencies when necessary.

Also speaking at the event, the Executive Assistant on Security to the Governor, CP Sunday Odukoya (retd), commended Governor Makinde for his sustained funding of the security sector and expressed confidence that the new APCs would translate to better policing outcomes.
The presentation ceremony was witnessed by several top government officials including the Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Prof. Salihu AbdulWaheed; Commissioner for Special Duties, Alhaja Faosat Sanni; Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Alhaja Wasilat Adegoke; Executive Adviser on Rule of Law Enforcement, CP Ayodele Sonubi (retd); and Special Adviser on Homeland Security, AGC Segun Adegoke (retd).
Governor Makinde’s administration has consistently prioritized security, investing in infrastructure, technology, and logistics to support law enforcement and enhance public safety in Oyo State.
