…Eulogises Late Raymond Zard for Contributions to Oyo’s Development
Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has emphasised the importance of productivity, skill acquisition, knowledge-based innovation, and entrepreneurship as vital pillars for driving economic prosperity in Nigeria.
Makinde made the statement on Saturday during the first-year remembrance event held in honour of the late industrialist and philanthropist, Dr. Raymond Zard, at his residence in Iyaganku, Ibadan.
The governor paid glowing tribute to the late Chairman of Zard Group of Companies, describing him as a visionary businessman and the Babalaje of Ibadanland, whose contributions to the state’s economic development, particularly in Ibadan, remain significant.
Makinde noted that the Oyo State Government has maintained a productive partnership with Zard Holdings over the years, particularly in the area of road infrastructure development.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Mr. Camille Zard, son of the deceased, described his late father as a steadfast supporter whose legacy was rooted in humility, compassion, and service to others.
Also delivering tributes, the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Ibadan, Most Rev’d Dr. Gabriel ‘Leke Abegunrin, praised the late Zard as a beacon of joy and generosity to his community.
Renowned obstetrician and gynaecologist, Dr. Tony Marinho, lauded Governor Makinde for prioritising the welfare of pensioners, while remembering Chief Zard as a multi-talented individual who selflessly gave back to society, especially to the underprivileged.
