Governor of Oyo State, Engr. ‘Seyi Makinde, and his wife, Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde, have been conferred with prestigious chieftaincy titles in Akure Kingdom. The governor was installed as the Aare Omoluabi of Akure Kingdom, while his wife was honoured as the Yeye Aare Omoluabi, by the Deji of Akure, Oba (Dr.) Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, on Friday.
Speaking at the ceremony held in Akure, Governor Makinde described the recognition as both a great honour and a call to serve the people of Akure Kingdom. He pledged to support the development of the ancient town, including completing the Akure Town Hall and contributing to the modernisation of the Akure Palace.
“For me and my wife, this honour is deeply appreciated. We are grateful to be recognised by Akure Kingdom, and we see this as a further call to action. We will continue to do our best to uplift this land,” Makinde said.
He recalled his connection to the town, noting that he lived in Akure in 1977 as a 10-year-old. “This is my home. Akure Kingdom has honoured one of its own,” he added, while expressing appreciation to his mother, Mrs. Victoria Modupe Alo, for attending the ceremony.
Makinde also congratulated the Deji of Akure on the 10th anniversary of his coronation, describing the monarch’s reign as impactful and transformative.
The grand event was graced by top dignitaries from Oyo State and various parts of the country, reflecting the significance of the titles and the wide respect Governor Makinde commands across regions.
