Makinde’s Aide Hits Oyo APC Over UCH Power Crisis, Says FG to Blame

Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Special Adviser on Media to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, has fired back at the All Progressives Congress (APC) over its criticism of the state government regarding the ongoing electricity crisis at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

In a strongly worded statement released on Tuesday, Olanrewaju accused the APC of politicizing the issue instead of addressing the root cause. He argued that the power supply challenge at UCH stemmed from the Federal Government’s failure to subsidize electricity costs for teaching hospitals, as promised by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, in August 2023.

“But we are not surprised because APC will play politics with anything, even the agony and pains of the people they were elected to serve,” Olanrewaju stated.

He questioned why the APC was blaming the Oyo State Government for an issue created by the Federal Government’s inaction. “Had the Federal Government fulfilled its promise of subsidizing its own institution, would UCH be in this state?” he asked.

The governor’s aide also criticized the APC for what he described as a lack of long-term solutions, stating that governance requires serious-minded leadership, not “jesters” who merely react to problems without strategic planning.

“In Oyo State, we don’t paper over the cracks; we go to the roots of issues to get permanent solutions,” he added.

The power supply issue at UCH has drawn widespread attention, with stakeholders calling for urgent intervention to prevent disruptions to medical services.
