A Lagos motorist recently had a tense confrontation with a filling station attendant after discovering that his car’s fuel gauge did not reflect the N35,000 worth of fuel he had just purchased. The incident highlights concerns over fraudulent practices in some fuel stations across the city.
According to the motorist, after filling his car with fuel valued at N35,000, he noticed that the gauge in his vehicle had not moved as expected. Alarmed, he immediately returned to the filling station to demand an explanation from the attendants.
After a heated exchange, the station’s management offered to refill his car. This time, the man paid N32,000, and to his surprise, the fuel gauge now indicated a full tank.
The incident raises questions about the accuracy of fuel dispensers and the integrity of some fuel stations in Lagos. Many residents have expressed similar frustrations, alleging that some stations intentionally tamper with their pumps to cheat customers.
Consumer protection advocates have urged the relevant authorities to intensify inspections of fuel stations to ensure compliance with regulations and protect consumers from exploitation.
