In a landmark case, a man has been sentenced to 4 years and 3 months in jail for “stealthing” – the nonconsensual removal of a condom during sex.
Guy Mukendi, 39, from Brixton, was convicted of rape at Inner London Crown Court. The victim had consented to sex with Mukendi only on the condition that a condom be used, but he removed it without her knowledge or consent.
Under English and Welsh law, nonconsensual condom removal is considered a form of rape. This conviction is one of the first of its kind, marking a significant step in recognizing “stealthing” as a serious sexual offense.
Metropolitan Police worked closely with the victim to build a strong case against Mukendi. They obtained screenshots of messages where he admitted to removing the condom, claiming it was because he had not had sex in a long time. Mukendi later deleted these messages, but police were still able to gather crucial forensic evidence.
“Throughout this investigation Mukendi denied any wrongdoing, but our officers built a compelling case against him to leave no doubt in the jury’s mind,” said DC Jack Earl, who led the investigation. “We were dedicated to securing justice for the victim and will continue to raise awareness that this crime is a form of rape.”
The victim’s bravery in reporting the incident was commended. “If you have been a victim of sexual violence and not yet reported it, please contact your local police service and we will do all that we can to help and bring you justice,” Earl said.
