Mojisola Meranda has stepped down as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. She announced her resignation during Monday’s plenary session, alongside other principal officers who also vacated their positions.
Meranda made history on January 13 as the first female Speaker of the Lagos Assembly after the removal of Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa. However, following her resignation, Obasa, who represents Agege State Constituency, was re-elected as Speaker during the same session.
Before her brief tenure as Speaker, Meranda had served as Deputy Speaker. After stepping down, she was re-elected to her previous role, reinstating the leadership structure that existed before Obasa’s removal earlier this year.
