Abdulmumuni Abiola, the son of the late Chief MKO Abiola, has made a startling revelation about his elder brother, Kola Abiola. Abdulmumuni claimed that Kola was involved in a romantic relationship with the daughter of former military ruler, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, while their father languished in prison.
The late Chief Abiola, who was widely regarded as the winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election, died in confinement after Babangida revoked his election and imprisoned him in 1994 when he attempted to assume the presidency.
Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, the wife of Abiola and the mother of Abdulmumuni, was also killed by state agents linked to the administration of the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, in June 1996, while she was on a mission to actualize the June 12, 1993 presidential election.
During a chat on the Mic On podcast, moderated by Channels TV’s anchor, Seun Okinbaloye, Abdulmumuni expressed his disappointment in his elder brother, Kola, for not being a “strong voice for a true democracy” when their father was in jail. He stated that Kola was “having a relationship with Babangida’s daughter” during that time.
Abdulmumuni further lamented that his late father could not witness what his first son turned out to be, and he believes that Nigerians are also saddened by the situation. He also criticized Kola’s failed attempts to run for president, saying, “How could he be a president? He cannot manage Abiola’s empire, does he want to manage Nigeria? He doesn’t deserve a high position.”
