Mrs. Adenike Okunlaya, the mother of 3-year-old Abayomi Michael, has shared her ordeal following allegations of persistent abuse her son endured at Christ Mitots School, Ikorodu, Lagos.

Her revelation comes after a disturbing video surfaced online showing a teacher, Stella Nwadigo, physically assaulting Abayomi for struggling to write numbers. In response, Lagos State Police have arrested Nwadigo, who is now remanded in Kirikiri Prison.

Mrs. Okunlaya, who works at the school, disclosed that this incident was not the first time her son had suffered at the hands of the teacher. According to her, Abayomi often returned home complaining about being beaten.

“I have reported to the school authorities several times, and they always assured me they would address it,” she said in Yoruba. “But nothing changed. When I saw the video, I didn’t take immediate action, but my son had always told me, ‘Aunty Nwadigo beat me.’ Yet, she is still teaching there.”

She also shared her struggles as a widow trying to ensure a better future for her son. “Michael lost his father when he was just a year and a few months old. I’ve been doing odd jobs like cleaning and washing clothes to give him a good life and quality education. I didn’t ask the teacher to beat my child—just to help monitor his education.”

Mrs. Okunlaya is now calling for justice and pleading for support from Nigerians to secure a better future for her son.
