The Muslim Community of Oyo State on Monday distributed palliatives to indigent Muslims in the 33 Local Government Areas of the state.
The items were handed over at the Bodija Central Mosque, Ibadan, to Muslim leaders in each of the LGAs for onward distribution to indigent Muslims in their respective councils.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that items distributed include bags of rice, semovita, and semolina.
The Chairman of the Muslim Community of Oyo State, Alhaji Kunle Sanni, said the items would assist the beneficiaries to fast with ease.
Sanni noted that a lot of people were already finding it difficult to feed before the commencement of the holy month due to the current economic situation in the country.
“We are extending this privilege to indigent Muslims in the society in this holy month to enable them to fast with ease and contentment.
“This is the month of giving, even if there is no economic hardship that is affecting everybody, Muslims are very charitable during this month because they are sure of multiple rewards,” he said.
The chairman appealed to those saddled with the responsibility of distributing the items to do so with the fear of Allah.
He said they should not be selfish and must ensure that the items got to the targeted people.
Sanni commended the state’s three senators, Sen. Fatai Buhari (Oyo North), Sen. Sharafadeen Ali (Oyo South), and Sen. Yunus Akintunde (Oyo Central) for their support to the Muslim community in the state.
He also called on Nigerians to continue to pray for the success of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and other leaders in Nigeria for the progress and development of the country. (NAN)
