The special prayer led by the Chief Imam of Ibadanland was held at the Eid praying ground, Agodi-Gate, Ibadan on Monday.

The prayer which has in attendance Muslim faithfuls and clerics recited some selected chapters of the Holy Quran and other Islamic supplications to seek Allah’s intervention over the nation’s insecurity and economic challenges.

Addressing newsmen after the prayer, Alhaji Murisiku Siyanbade, the Secretary-General of the Muslim Community of Oyo State, said the prayer was offered for Nigerians, Oyo State and Nigeria in general.

Siyanbade said that the prayer was to seek Allah’s divine interventions to get the country out of the current sorry state of the economy and insecurity.

“We are imploring God to guide our leaders right to help them as they strive to make things better for Nigeria.

” We are also urging Nigerians to have patience with the good efforts of President Bola Tinubu , the captain of the ship, and pray that he succeeds,” Siyanbade said.

The secretary-general said that prayer was the only key that can be offered when things are bad.

Also speaking ,a former lecturer of the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, University of Ibadan, Prof. Kamil Oloso, affirmed the efficacy of prayers and citizens’ commitment to see Nigeria through.

Emphasising the hardship on many Nigerians, he, however, said the Almighty Allah was inclined to answer prayers easily during the period of Ramadan.

“We believe that the prayers offered today have been answered and the country will begin to enjoy peace and harmony among others by the grace of God,” Oloso said.

He, however, called on those at the helm of affairs of Nigeria to always do the right thing.saying everyone would give accounts of his or her deeds on the day of judgment.

“We will continue to appeal to few corrupt individuals who are at the echelon of the leadership of this country to learn from those responsible ones and I believe this prayer will make them sit up and start to do the right thing,” Oloso said.

The Alfa Agba of Ibadanland, Dr AbddulBari Adetunji, enjoined Muslims to always pray whenever they found themselves in difficult situations.

Adetunji, however, called on Nigerians to shun bad habits and other social vices so that their prayers would be accepted by Allah.

According to him, prayers are quickly accepted when an individual moves away from committing sins and seeks the forgiveness of God.

Among those present at the occasion include Alhaji Daud Afolabi,Oyo State Coordinator, National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) among others. ●NAN
