The soldier’s frustration and disappointment are evident in the video as he recounts his struggle to afford the transportation fare to visit his family. It is disheartening to hear that someone who has been serving their country diligently for a year, putting their life on the line in the Maiduguri Forest, is unable to enjoy a well-deserved break with their loved ones due to financial constraints.

The Nigerian soldier’s monthly salary of N50,000 is already barely enough to cater to his basic needs, let alone cover such a high transportation cost. Given his limited income, it is understandable why he cannot afford the N35,000 ticket. The fact that the round-trip fare would amount to N70,000 further compounds his predicament.

It is important to highlight and address the financial challenges faced by soldiers and other low-income individuals in Nigeria. These individuals sacrifice their time, energy, and sometimes even their lives, to protect the nation. They deserve to be adequately remunerated to ensure their well-being and that of their families.

The soldier’s decision to return to the dangerous jungle in Maiduguri rather than being able to spend precious time with his family is a harsh reality that many Nigerians face. It brings to light the need for policymakers to prioritize the welfare and financial stability of those who defend the country.
