The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has confirmed that it held a meeting with Mrs. Comfort Emanson, the Ibom Air passenger who was involved in a widely publicized altercation with a flight attendant and security agents at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on August 10, 2025.
NCAA’s spokesman, Michael Achimugu, disclosed the development in a post on his official X handle on Thursday, noting that Emanson was accompanied by her lawyer to the meeting. He, however, did not provide further details on the outcome.
“Yesterday in Abuja, the NCAA team met with Julie Edwards and other members of the crew involved in the Comfort Emanson incident as part of investigations into that event. Later today, Comfort Emanson, the passenger, would be meeting with the Authority. She is being accompanied by her lawyer,” Achimugu stated.
According to him, the authority’s directorates of aviation security, operations, licensing and training standards, legal, and consumer protection are collaborating to ensure a proper conclusion to the ongoing probe.
The case has attracted national attention after videos of the confrontation went viral, showing Emanson in a heated exchange with crew members and airport security. She was accused of physically assaulting a flight attendant and resisting security personnel upon arrival in Lagos.
Public reactions have been divided. While many Nigerians condemned Emanson for her aggressive conduct, others criticized the airline’s crew, particularly a flight attendant who was seen in the footage attempting to block the passenger from disembarking.
Following her arrest at the airport, Emanson was arraigned before a Lagos court and remanded in prison custody. She was later released, after which charges against her were dropped.
The NCAA has assured that its findings will be made public once the investigation is concluded.
