The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has summoned an Ibom Air cabin crew member, Juliana Edward, and a passenger, Comfort Emmanson, for further investigation into a recent onboard altercation.
The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NCAA, Mr. Michael Achimugu, disclosed this during a question-and-answer session at the Emergency National Civil Aviation Security Committee and Stakeholders Meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja.
According to Achimugu, the regulatory authority is taking the matter seriously to ensure transparency and uphold safety and consumer protection standards in the aviation sector. He noted that both the crew member and the passenger would appear before investigators to provide their accounts of the incident, which has sparked public attention in recent days.
“The NCAA will ensure that this case is handled fairly, with due regard to the rights of both the airline staff and the passenger involved,” Achimugu said, stressing that passenger safety and crew professionalism remain top priorities.
The NCAA spokesperson further explained that the agency’s intervention is part of its mandate to safeguard public confidence in the aviation industry, particularly when disputes arise during flights.
The confrontation between Edward and Emmanson reportedly disrupted flight operations and has since attracted commentary on social media, with aviation stakeholders calling for a balanced and professional resolution.
Achimugu assured Nigerians that the outcome of the investigation would guide future measures aimed at preventing similar incidents and strengthening relationships between airlines, passengers, and regulators.
