Social media users have expressed their disapproval of the daughter of late Herbert Wigwe for remaining seated while greeting Vice President Kashim Shettima at her father’s funeral.

A man known as #sadiqsolar took to his social media platform on Thursday to criticize her, stating that she “lacks proper home training.” He argued that it is disrespectful to shake hands with an elder while sitting down.

However, many netizens defended her actions, emphasizing that she is currently mourning the loss of multiple family members. They pointed out that the Vice President would understand her emotional state. #Abubakar_Mhmmad responded to the criticism by stating that she is going through a difficult time and that judgement should be avoided. #Nabilah_jay questioned the lack of empathy in the criticism, stating that she lost three family members recently and should be given leeway.

The comments continued, with #TheLitePhoenix suggesting that in such a distressing situation, one should be able to greet others in their own way. Similarly, #mayor_swissnd asked if she was expected to throw herself on the ground in grief. #Nigerian_Doctor criticized the misplaced focus on handshakes and respect instead of recognizing someone’s grieving process.

In response to the criticism, #Olowu007 highlighted the tragedy the young woman is currently facing, losing both parents and a sibling on the same day. They criticized the insensitivity of expecting her to prioritize standing up while mourning.
