A Nigerian Associate Professor of Theology at the Duquesne Catholic University, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Marinus Iwuchukwu has been murdered in the US city of Pittsburg Pensylvania.
The incident which took place along Thorncrest Drive, Wilkins Township, Pittsburg Tuesday, 17th of Januaury, is being investigated by the police as a suspected murder-suicide.
Duquesne University released a statement confirming the death of Marinus Iwuchukwu.
According to the statement by university spokesman Gabriel Welsch,”This is a tragedy for all involved and our thoughts and prayers are with Professor Iwuchukwu’s colleagues, students, friends, and loved ones”.
The Allegheny County medical examiner identified the woman who also died as 50-year-old Charce Dunn of Wilkins Township.
Police said they were called to check on the well-being of a couple inside their home.
Allegheny County police said a third party was unable to reach Dr Iwuchukwu and learned that he had been stabbed and that a woman remained inside the residence with a firearm.
The SWAT team made entry into the home and found 59-year-old Iwuchukwu and a 50-year-old woman dead. Both appeared to have stab wounds, and the woman sustained an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
Prior to coming to Duquesne University, Iwuchukwu who hails from Eastern Nigeria, was a faculty of a public college in Kano, Nigeria for twelve years. Until his death he taught undergrad courses in world religions and culture; Judaism, Christianity, and Islam; and dialogue among religions.
Police say investigation is continuing into the circumstances of the two deaths.
