The Tapswap crypto-mining app has gained immense popularity among Nigerians, but users are facing obstacles as access to the app has been limited.
In a recent development, reports on social media suggest that the Tapswap site is experiencing issues loading and processing transactions when accessed via Nigerian internet connections. In response, users have found a workaround by using Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to bypass the apparent geoblocking.
Expressing frustration and disappointment, affected users are demanding explanations and solutions for the access restrictions. Speculations have arisen regarding whether Tapswap deliberately targeted Nigerian users with this ban.
Tweeting under the handle #AuthorHeaven_EW, Ernest shared, “It seems Tap Swap has decided to block users from Nigeria.” He further added, “Nigerians have found a way around this by using VPNs to access the platform, indicating a deliberate move by Tapswap to restrict access, possibly due to the President’s disapproval.”
Another Twitter user, #gentl_introvert, remarked on the situation, questioning why beneficial innovations like Tapswap face bans in Nigeria and pondering whether the government or the country as a whole is to blame.
Tapswap, in response to the concerns, clarified that the restriction was not directed specifically at Nigerian users. The app explained that the verification requirement was implemented to combat Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks originating from the region.
In a statement, Tapswap reassured the Nigerian community that access restrictions will be lifted once the infrastructure is fully secured. The company expressed gratitude to its global community for their understanding and support.
The Tapswap frenzy in Nigeria follows the success of Notcoin, which reportedly allowed many Nigerians to generate substantial profits through cryptocurrency mining.
