Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State, experienced its share of losses, with the departure of numerous celebrated individuals whose legacies will not be forgotten.

Oba Lekan Balogun

The passing of Oba Mohood Olalekan Balogun, the immediate past Olubadan of Ibadanland, was one of the most notable losses of 2024. Oba Balogun, who reigned from March 2022 until his death on March 14, 2024, at age 81, was an accomplished scholar, politician, and former senator representing Oyo South.

Otunba Abimbola Davies

The unexpected death of Otunba Abimbola Mosobalaje Davies in April 2024 shocked many. Aged 67, he was a politician, golfer, poet, and author, as well as the Akinrogun of Ibadanland.

Prof. David Oyewusi
