The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has congratulated the Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, on his transformative tax administration in the country within his first year in office.

The Chairman of the council, Chief Ademola Babalola, in a statement, which he personally signed and circulated by the Secretary of the Council, Comrade Olusola Oladapo, extended the warmest felicitations of all journalists in the state to Adedeji on his remarkable achievements within the first 365 days in office.

According to him, “It is on record that the FIRS, under your leadership, has successfully rolled out an online self-service portal for taxpayers, ensuring seamless access to tax-related services— a significant leap towards modernising the tax system in Nigeria.

“Furthermore, your strategic optimisation of the existing Tax Administration System has enhanced efficiency and transparency, exemplifying your dedication to improving the service’s operations.

“It is particularly commendable that, through your transparent processes, over 200,000 new taxpayers have voluntarily enrolled for tax payment, reflecting the confidence placed in your leadership by the Nigerian populace.

“The record-breaking revenue growth of N17.48 trillion, representing a staggering 144 per cent increase in the last 12 months, underscores the effectiveness of your initiatives in addressing the country’s pressing need for revenue.”

Babalola notes that Adedeji’s previous experience as Commissioner of Finance during the tenure of the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi as governor of Oyo State, during his first term in office between 2011 and 2015, “has undoubtedly contributed to your prowess in navigating the complexities of fiscal management.

“The need for enhanced revenue to underpin infrastructure development, revamp the education system, and elevate the health sector has never been more urgent, and your work at FIRS is crucial in this regard.

“We applaud your high work ethics and impressive knack for achievements, even amidst challenges. Your dedication to restructuring the FIRS, introducing new tax collection tools, and enhancing workers’ welfare has set a benchmark for others to aspire to.

“As you continue on this transformative path, it is our firm belief that FIRS, under your stewardship, will not only sustain its momentum but also scale new heights in the coming years. You stand as a beacon of hope and a source of inspiration for those who come after you.

“Once again, congratulations on this significant achievement. We are proud to have you as an ambassador of Oyo State in the Federal Government.”
