Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aderemi Oseni, has hailed the nomination of former Oyo State Governor, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, describing it as a divine arrangement and a historic milestone for the ancient city.
Oseni, who represents Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency and chairs the House Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), expressed his delight in a statement issued Tuesday by his media aide, Idowu Ayodele, and made available to journalists in Ibadan.
He commended the Ibadan Traditional Council for upholding the age-long, structured succession system of the Olubadan stool, which he described as one of the most exemplary traditional leadership models in Nigeria.
“Oba Rashidi Ladoja’s emergence as Olubadan is more than a traditional progression; it is a spiritually guided moment in the history of our land,” Oseni stated. “He is a man of great wisdom, deep cultural understanding, and respected leadership—an ideal royal father the people can look up to.”
Oseni said the former governor’s nomination marks a new chapter for Ibadanland, adding that his wealth of experience in politics, governance, and traditional matters would bring renewed dignity and visibility to the city and the Yoruba nation as a whole.
“This is a moment of pride and hope, not only for the people of Ibadanland but for the entire Yoruba race,” Oseni added. “With Oba Ladoja on the throne, we are confident of a reign defined by unity, wisdom, and progressive leadership.”
Oba Ladoja was nominated by the Ibadan kingmakers following the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who died on Monday, July 7, 2025. The nomination was made in accordance with the traditional chieftaincy hierarchy and awaits final approval by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
Calling for unity and support, Oseni urged all indigenes of Ibadan, both at home and in the diaspora, to rally behind the incoming monarch. He stressed that the collective backing of the people would be vital in ensuring a successful and impactful reign.
“With unity and shared vision, the future of Ibadan under Oba Ladoja promises peace, cultural revitalization, and greater prosperity,” he said.
