●Says raging crisis in the Olubadan stool threatens harmony among traditional rulers

In the wake of a raging crisis surrounding the enthronement process of the Olubadan, the Ibile G7, a non-political organization consisting of Ibadan indigenes, has called for peace and unity. The group has expressed concerns over the actions and statements made by a High Chief in Ibadanland, which they believe are complicating the process.

The controversy began following the demise of the late Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, and the questionable state of health of the next Olubadan designate, Oba Olakulehin. The Ibile G7 group strongly disapproves of the elevated Chief’s behavior and his attempts to drag the name of the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, into the matter.

The group is particularly concerned about the division caused by the Chief’s statements among other members of the Olubadan in council, as well as the allegations of bribery to secure the rightful place on the throne. The Ibile G7 is critical of the Chief’s indirect attack on the Otun Olubadan, Chief Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, who is next in line for the Olubadan stool.

The Ibile G7 emphasizes that the Olubadan issue should not be used for personal gain but should serve the progress and unity of Ibadan land. They find it disheartening that certain elevated High Chiefs are attempting to undermine the long-standing process of choosing the Olubadan, which has been cherished for ages.

The group implores all parties involved to maintain the dignity of Ibadan’s traditions and chieftancy declarations. They urge Chief Ajibola not to involve Governor Seyi Makinde in his personal agenda, as it would undermine the Governor’s reputation and the seamless process of Olubadan succession.

The Ibile G7 highlights the need for peace and calm in Ibadan and calls on Governor Makinde to intervene and ensure a resolution before the situation escalates. They reveal that 9 out of 11 Kingmakers have endorsed Chief Owolabi Akinloye Olakunlehin as the next Olubadan, and the traditional consultation process is nearing completion.

The group commends Governor Makinde for prioritizing the peace and unity of Ibadanland, and they also commend Senator Rashidi Ladoja for his mature handling of the controversies surrounding the Olubadan issue. In preparation for the formal presentation of the new Olubadan designate, the Ibile G7 has started mobilizing other socio-cultural groups under the CCII to welcome Oba Owolabi Akinloye Olakunlehin.

The group emphasizes that the presentation ceremony, to be held at Mapo Hall, will include the participation of Kingmakers and high-ranking chiefs. Following the presentation, the unanimous decision on Oba Olakunlehin’s nomination will be forwarded to the State Governor for approval, which will determine the coronation date.

As the crisis continues, the Ibile G7 remains vigilant and calls on all stakeholders to prioritize peace and unity for the sake of Ibadanland’s future.
