The historic city of Ogbomoso buzzed with excitement as golfers from across Nigeria converged for the second edition of the Oba Ghandi Golf Tournament. Held at the Ogbomoso Recreation Club, the event showcased skill, sportsmanship, and camaraderie.
The tournament drew participants from prestigious golf clubs such as Abeokuta, Tiger Ibadan, Ada, and DG T Ilorin. This year’s competition was a major highlight of the maiden Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival, an initiative celebrating the city’s vibrant cultural heritage and promoting local tourism.
Oba Ghandi, who officially launched the event with a ceremonial tee-off, commended the Ogbomoso Recreation Club for maintaining top-tier facilities and fostering sporting excellence.
Dr. Oladejo Akanni, co-chair of the Carnival Committee, hailed the tournament as a landmark event. “This is more than just a sporting event; it’s a celebration of unity, culture, and excellence. We’re excited about the growing enthusiasm and look forward to an even bigger turnout next year,” he remarked.
The festivities extend beyond the golf course, with a blind football competition and a theatrical performance by renowned actors scheduled for later today at Anglican Grammar School, Ogbomoso.
Sunday’s lineup includes a thanksgiving service at Beulah Centre at noon, followed by the grand finale at Ogbomoso Stadium. Dignitaries expected to attend include the Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musawa; Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde; and the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams.
