The pains of subsidy is more felt at the border communities as the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise known as petrol spikes to between N800 and N1,000 per liter.
The King Oniko of Iloland, Oba Olàkunle Ojo and the Onipokia of Ipokia kingdom, Oba Yisa Adelakun Olaniyan, while lamenting this situation, unanimously sought for the Customs support in reviewing policy restricting fuel to filling stations that are 20km to the border stations.
They disclosed this during visit of the acting Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi to the border communities.
According to the two revered kings, who said a litre of fuel goes between N800- N1,000 per litres at the border areas, to the Customs CG that they traveled over 30km to get fuel for the running of day to day activities in their respective kingdoms.
The border communities demands to the ag Customs CG are, “Reopening and supply of petrol to Idiroko other than the 20km we have more than 6 years ago. We have to travel 30km to get fuel and it sells for N800 to N1000. Reopening of border to cars and ETLS goods, employment of indigenes from border communities and electricity supply.
“Also, primary and secondary school should be subsidized as they are being run like private schools. The school should be handed over to the government for locals to have access to the service rendered by the school.”
