The Federal Commissioner representing Oyo State at the Federal Character Commission, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela, has stated that the recent political developments surrounding the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its emerging coalition pose no threat to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election ambitions in 2027.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Olowofela who also served as Commissioner for Education in Oyo State argued that the current alignment of opposition figures, particularly former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s reported move to the ADC, would ultimately benefit Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“ADC just made the 2027 election easier for Tinubu,” Olowofela declared, describing the party as a “coalition of bad losers” that lacks the unified front necessary to unseat the APC-led administration.
Recalling the dynamics of the 2023 presidential election, which was closely contested between the APC, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Labour Party, Olowofela observed that 2027 could see a four-way race involving Tinubu (APC), Atiku (ADC), Peter Obi (Labour Party), and possibly Seyi Makinde (PDP).
He emphasized that while the APC is quietly consolidating power in strategic states like Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Rivers, the opposition remains fragmented and weakened.
“PDP is seriously balkanized with the exit of Atiku and the lingering crisis over Wike’s influence,” he noted. “Labour Party and the Obidients are committed to Peter Obi, but their loyalty is tied to his presidential ambition. If he accepts a vice-presidential slot, the movement may collapse.”
According to Olowofela, the ADC’s emergence as Atiku’s new platform will only deepen the disunity among opposition forces, which previously had a stronger chance under a unified PDP umbrella.
He also hinted at the unpredictable nature of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, describing him as someone capable of pulling political surprises, including securing the PDP presidential ticket.
Despite this, Olowofela maintained confidence in Tinubu’s political resilience, describing him as a “maverick” whose strategic depth and experience remain unmatched.
“With the political class compounding their woes by jumping into ADC, they’re only making the path clearer for the Father of Modern-Day Politics in Nigeria — Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he concluded.
