The Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, has spoken out against the Otun Balogun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, regarding his views on the health condition of the Olubadan-Designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin. Ladoja argued that Ajibola’s comments were merely his personal opinion and not that of a medical professional.

It was previously reported that Ajibola had expressed concerns about Olakulehin’s fitness to ascend the throne, given his current health status. Ajibola, who is a senior in the military line of the Olubadan system, suggested that the position should remain vacant until Olakulehin has fully recovered.

Disagreeing with Ajibola’s stance, Ladoja stated during a press conference at his Bodija residence in Ibadan, that Olakulehin, being an elderly person, should not be expected to exhibit youthful energy. Ladoja pointed out that Olakulehin is over 80 years old and should not be judged based on the actions of a much younger person.

Responding to a question regarding Ajibola’s absence from the upcoming Olubadan-in-council meeting scheduled for Friday, where he is meant to nominate Olakulehin, Ladoja mentioned that if Ajibola fails to attend, he can be replaced with another High Chief next in line. Ladoja affirmed that he had already arranged for a meeting on Friday, as the following day was a public holiday, and Ajibola could be substituted if necessary.

The Olubadan stool became vacant after the passing of the previous Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, at the age of 81, at the University College Hospital (UCH).
