The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned what it describes as violent attacks on its members, allegedly orchestrated by the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led People’s Democratic Party (PDP) government. The party has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Inspector General of Police, and the Attorney General of the Federation to intervene and protect Osun residents.
At a press conference in Osogbo on Monday, APC leaders, including State Chairman Alhaji Tajudeen Lawal, Executive Director of the Federal Housing Authority Remi Omowaiye, former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Prince Adebayo Adeleke, and former Special Adviser on Education Alhaji Jamiu Olawumi, expressed deep concern over the alleged killings and violence in the state.
According to the APC, the attacks began following the recent Court of Appeal ruling reinstating the party’s elected local government chairmen and councillors, a decision the party claims Governor Adeleke has refused to obey. The party alleged that PDP-affiliated thugs, supported by the state-backed Amotekun Corps, were behind the attacks.
Among the reported victims was Hon. Remi Abass, the elected Chairman of Irewole Local Government Area, who was allegedly killed by gunmen. Omowaiye recounted an incident in which he and his team were ambushed while traveling from Ilesa to Osogbo, claiming that his vehicle was shot at by PDP supporters led by House of Assembly member Olawale Akerele.
“The situation is dire. Our members are being attacked, abducted, and killed. Governor Adeleke is treating Osun as his personal property,” Omowaiye stated. He called for the immediate proscription of the Amotekun Corps in Osun, accusing the security outfit of acting as a militia for the PDP.
Similarly, Olawumi warned that the escalating violence could plunge Osun into chaos, urging traditional rulers to intervene. “The government is failing in its duty to protect lives and property. This is a direct assault on democracy,” he said.
Prince Adebayo Adeleke also condemned the violence, describing it as a smear on the state’s reputation. He insisted that APC council officials would continue to resume at their offices despite threats, vowing that the party would not be intimidated.
As tensions escalate, the APC has urged federal authorities to take immediate action to prevent further violence and uphold the rule of law in Osun State.
