In a heartbreaking turn of events, a woman from Ede, Osun State, identified as Mrs Folakemi, has passed away after opting for a sum of N300,000 in cash instead of accepting a free operation to remove her long-standing goitre.
Folakemi had been suffering from the debilitating condition for years and sought medical assistance. A compassionate medical team came forward and kindly offered her the opportunity to undergo the surgery free of charge. Surprisingly, Folakemi declined the generous offer and requested that the money collected for her treatment be given to her instead.
Returning to her village in Osun with a glimmer of hope, Folakemi anticipated that the government, which had been made aware of her situation through a viral video and pledged assistance, would fulfill their promise. Unfortunately, her hopes were dashed as no assistance was provided.
In a turn of events, it has been reported that a director of a Non-governmental Organization (NGO), who took a keen interest in Folakemi’s case, managed to convince her to reconsider and undergo the operation by relinquishing the cash. Regrettably, the surgery did not go as planned, ultimately resulting in her untimely demise.
