The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Osun State Chapter, on Saturday joined the global community to commemorate the 2025 International Youth Day with a high-profile celebration held in Osogbo.

This year’s event, themed “Youth Advancing Multilateral Cooperation through Technology and Partnership,” brought together traditional rulers, government officials, industry leaders, and youth advocates to discuss strategies for empowering young people in the state.

Among the dignitaries present were His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Michael Odunayo Àjàyí (Arowotawaya II), the Elerinmo of Erinmo-Ijesha Kingdom; the Honourable Commissioner for Youth Affairs, Osun State, Hon. Olagunju Moshood Olalekan; alongside other royal fathers, policymakers, and business leaders.

A major highlight of the celebration was the investiture of Engr. Ademola Isaac Agoro, FNSE, as Patron of NYCN Osun State Chapter, in recognition of his consistent contributions to youth development, mentorship, and national growth.

Delivering the keynote address, Engr. Agoro emphasized that youth empowerment is a strategic investment in Osun’s future. He called for the establishment of technology and innovation hubs, the creation of a Youth Development Fund, and the strengthening of collaborations between young people and industries.

In his acceptance speech, the new Patron pledged to use his position to expand opportunities for Osun youths:

“This investiture is not just a personal recognition; it is a call to greater service. I dedicate this honor to the vibrant young people of Osun State, whose resilience and creativity continue to inspire us all. As Patron of NYCN, I will work closely with government, industry, and development partners to ensure that the dreams of Osun youth translate into tangible achievements for our state and nation.”

Hon. Olagunju Moshood Olalekan, the Commissioner for Youth Affairs, lauded the resilience and creativity of young people in the state, reiterating the government’s commitment to policies that promote youth inclusion and innovation.

Also lending his voice, Oba Michael Odunayo Àjàyí, the Elerinmo of Erinmo-Ijesha, urged youths to pursue technological advancement with discipline while preserving cultural values as a foundation for sustainable progress.

Industry leaders present at the occasion pledged greater support for youth-led enterprises through mentorship, funding, and partnerships, further reinforcing the call for collaboration.

The event concluded on a note of optimism, with stakeholders reaffirming that Osun youth are not merely beneficiaries of development initiatives but are active partners and leaders in shaping the state’s and Nigeria’s future.
