A Nigerian man has caused a stir online after allegedly purchasing fuel worth ₦58,548 from a filling station in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, and fleeing without paying.

The incident, widely shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), detailed how the suspect filled his tank, leaving the elderly fuel attendant distraught and in debt.

Details of the Incident

According to CCTV footage shared online, the man, driving a Honda Accord (popularly called “End of Discussion”) with plate number GGE576DY, opened the station’s gate wider during the transaction to enable his escape.

The viral post stated:

“A customer came to fill up his tank and zoomed off without paying. He stole 59.20 liters (₦58,548.4). The old man who sold the fuel is now in tears and in debt since the incident occurred on January 3, 2025. We have CCTV footage of the entire event.”

Reactions on Social Media

The video sparked widespread reactions as netizens condemned the suspect’s actions while sharing advice to prevent similar incidents.

@mic_belex: “This is really bad But how will he sell fuel to someone, then leave the person and discuss with another? He was distracted.”

@SopuruEgbodo: “For someone to do this, he’s likely involved in other crimes. He must be investigated.”

@anate20101: “The fuel will finish, and he’ll still turn around and blame the government.”

@Jorgetwiet: “This is why pay-before-service policies should be enforced in all stations.”

@Adathebeloved: “Wickedness! I hope the old man gets justice, and the thief is caught.”

Calls for Justice

Many have called on authorities and the public to help identify and apprehend the suspect, emphasizing the hardship the incident has caused the elderly attendant.

The post serves as a reminder of the importance of preventive measures, such as upfront payments at fueling stations, to avoid similar occurrences.
