The Oyo State House of Assembly is currently in a state of anxiety as the House leadership plans to suspend 11 of its 32 members, DAILY POST has learned.

The 11 lawmakers, all of whom are first-timers in the state legislature, comprise 7 members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and 4 from the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sources within the House revealed that the impending suspensions are due to allegations that the affected lawmakers have been working against the leadership of the Speaker, Adebowale Ogundoyin.

It is understood that the 11 lawmakers had previously reported the Speaker to the state governor, accusing him of sidelining them and mismanaging their Sallah (Eid al-Adha) gifts from the governor. They also reportedly leveled other allegations against the Speaker.

One of the affected lawmakers, Waheed Akintayo, however, told DAILY POST that he has not done anything against the rules of the House and maintains a good relationship with both the governor and the Speaker.

The Special Adviser to the Speaker on Media, Oyetunji Oyekunle, confirmed that the House will address the issue during its sitting on Thursday.

The looming suspension has created an atmosphere of anxiety among the members of the Oyo State House of Assembly, as the affected lawmakers are reportedly making efforts to avoid being sanctioned by the House leadership.
