The Oyo State Education Trust Fund (ETF), in partnership with the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), has distributed science kits to public secondary schools in the state. The initiative aims to enhance the teaching and learning of science subjects by integrating practical applications with theoretical knowledge.
Speaking at the distribution event held at the ETF office in Jericho, Ibadan, the Chairman of the Fund, Barr. Abdur-Raheem Abdur-Rahman, emphasized Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to improving education standards in Oyo State. He highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts, including the recruitment of qualified teachers, provision of furniture, and distribution of customized exercise books to public schools.
He stressed that the science kits would significantly improve students’ scientific understanding, ensuring they gain hands-on experience rather than relying solely on rote memorization.
“Education remains the key to societal transformation. A society that neglects this fact risks stagnation and poverty,” he said. “Governor Makinde’s administration recognizes this and has prioritized education as a core pillar of the Omituntun 2.0 agenda.”
Abdur-Rahman further explained that technological advancements and innovation are rooted in science, and by providing practical learning tools, students will develop essential skills for the future. He added that the kits would enable students to see, touch, and interact with scientific concepts, leading to better assimilation and application of knowledge.
The Executive Secretary of the Oyo State ETF, Mr. Adekunle Olusegun, urged corporate organizations, philanthropists, and well-meaning individuals to support the government’s efforts in improving educational infrastructure. He also encouraged beneficiary schools to use the science kits effectively for the enhancement of science education.
A teacher from Muslim Secondary School, Tede, Mr. Salahudeen Abdul Wasiu, expressed appreciation for the initiative, stating that the materials would greatly benefit students, making science lessons more practical and engaging. He assured that the donated equipment would be well-maintained and utilized efficiently.
The event was attended by ETF management staff, school principals, and other key stakeholders in the education sector.
