Represented by the Deputy Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Adeniran Liadi Mobolaji, the commissioner assured the association of the government’s open-door policy to enhance cooperation.
Olaleye commended Governor Makinde for his proactive measures in addressing herders-farmers conflicts and boosting livestock production. He highlighted key initiatives launched by the administration, including the free vaccination of large animals in all 33 local government areas, anthrax vaccination campaigns, and the administration of 250,000 doses of PPR vaccines for sheep and goats.
He stated:
“Governor Makinde has taken significant steps to ensure peace and security for both livestock and arable farmers in the state. The commissioner also urged the new MACBAN executives to embrace the government’s digital identity card system for cattle breeders and dealers, which aims to identify genuine members and promote transparency. He encouraged them to prioritize peace and cooperation, stressing the importance of community engagement in achieving food security.
In his remarks, MACBAN National President, Baba Usman Ngelzarma, lauded Governor Makinde’s unwavering support for herdsmen and urged the state government to establish a livestock-focused ministry at the state level. He expressed support for the ongoing herdsmen identification system, noting its potential to differentiate genuine herders from criminal elements.
