In response to the invasion of the Oyo State Secretariat by self-proclaimed Yoruba Nation agitators on Saturday, the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, has labeled the incident as treasonable. During interviews with journalists, Prince Oyelade criticized the act, emphasizing that there are better ways to express grievances without inciting violence.

Prince Oyelade highlighted the conduct of Professor Banji Akintoye, a well-known Yoruba nation agitator, as an example of peaceful and intelligent expression. He contrasted this with the attempted takeover of the legislative chambers using seven pump-action submachine guns and over 700 live cartridges, which he deemed an act of terrorism.

The commissioner also revealed that the sponsors behind the invasion of the governor’s office and the State House of Assembly on Saturday will face severe consequences for their actions. Despite the incident, Prince Oyelade emphasized that Oyo State remains the most peaceful state in Nigeria, and the actions of a few individuals will not tarnish this reputation.

Prince Oyelade further assured the public that normalcy has been restored in the state capital, Ibadan, and residents can continue with their daily activities without fear. It is clear that the Oyo State Government is committed to maintaining peace within its borders and ensuring that any attempts to disrupt this tranquility are dealt with accordingly.
