The Oyo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the skills and capabilities of its workforce through continuous capacity-building initiatives. This was emphasized by the State Head of Service, Mrs. Olubunmi Oni, during an induction and training program organized for newly recruited and converted administrative officers, as well as other senior staff members. The event took place at the Local Government Service Training Centre in Ibadan.
Mrs. Oni highlighted that over 5,000 senior and management staff have participated in various local, national, and international training programs since the inception of the current administration. These initiatives aim to equip civil servants with the best practices in governance and socio-economic development.
She praised Governor Seyi Makinde for his transformative leadership, citing the recruitment of approximately 23,000 workers, rapid infrastructural development, enforcement of the rule of law, and the recent appointment of 45 Permanent Secretaries as unprecedented achievements. Mrs. Oni urged civil and public servants to reciprocate these efforts by demonstrating dedication, loyalty, and cooperation to ensure the successful implementation of the Omituntun 2.0 Roadmap for Sustainable Development.
Addressing the newly recruited and promoted officers, Mrs. Oni encouraged them to embrace hard work, honesty, punctuality, and dedication. She reminded them to view their appointments as a privilege and to prioritize public interest over personal gain. “I congratulate you and urge you to abide by the oath of office you have sworn to during this two-day capacity-building program,” she said.
Mrs. Oni also emphasized that the administration is building a dynamic and competitive public service capable of rivaling global standards. She expressed confidence that the training would prepare officers to excel in their roles and contribute meaningfully to the state’s development.
In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Head of Service called on participants to remain loyal and committed to their duties. Similarly, the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Kamorudeen Aderibigbe, advised the new officers to familiarize themselves with the Public Service Rules and Regulations to ensure effective service delivery.
The training program underscores the Oyo State Government’s dedication to fostering a skilled and efficient workforce, aligned with its vision for sustainable development and improved governance.
