The Oyo State Government will host a stakeholders’ consultative forum to boost trade and investment in the state, as part of efforts to align with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) initiative.
The forum is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at the International Conference Centre, Ibadan. Chief Abiola Alli, a member of the event’s organizing committee, announced this during a press briefing on Monday at the Governor’s Office.
According to Alli, the forum aligns with Governor Seyi Makinde’s Oyo State Roadmap for Sustainable Development (2023–2027) and aims to attract international investors, foster collaboration between local and international traders, and expand the state’s economy.
“This forum is designed to address trade policies in the state, increase internally generated revenue, and attract foreign exchange,” Alli said. He highlighted Oyo’s proactive steps in leveraging the business opportunities created by AfCFTA, noting that the initiative will enhance the state’s visibility on the continent and attract global partnerships.
The event will feature representatives from 36 African embassies, traders, farmers, policymakers, and development partners. Alli urged residents to attend the forum to enhance their business opportunities and participate in shaping Oyo’s trade strategy under AfCFTA.
“We’ve invited key stakeholders, including traders, formal sector players, policymakers, and development partners, such as the African Development Bank (AfDB). Together, we aim to craft a comprehensive strategy for AfCFTA implementation,” Alli stated.
The forum will include six panel discussions covering topics such as Oyo State’s readiness for AfCFTA, the state’s value proposition, and the importance of partnerships and collaboration. The event will be live-streamed for global participation.
Other members of the organizing committee include Ms. Neo Theodore Tlhaselo, Chairperson and Special Adviser to the Governor on AfCFTA and International Trade; Mr. Kunle Olusina, Deputy Chairman; Mr. M.A. Bolarinwa, Compliance Officer; Mr. Falana Bolarinwa, Head of Logistics and Budget; Mr. Falomo Saheed, Assistant Secretary; and Mr. Olawale Olanrewaju, Secretary.
