As the nationwide #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest enters its fourth day, a Germany-based Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Oyo State, Hon Olayinka Segelu, has expressed his sincere gratitude to the state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for ensuring a peaceful protest in the state.
In a statement personally signed by him and made available to journalists, Segelu, who is celebrating his birthday today, thanked all the security agencies and the State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for their efforts in maintaining order and allowing the protesters to exercise their democratic rights without hindrance.
Describing the governor as “Fogbontolu” (a man who governs with wisdom), Hon Segelu praised Makinde’s responsive leadership in handling the protest, which according to him, was a complete contrast to the violent and tragic events that have unfolded in other parts of the country since the commencement of the nationwide protest.
Several states declared curfews in response to the unrest that followed the hijack of the protest by hoodlums and miscreants. However, Segelu observed that Oyo State was one of the few states where the protest was reported to be peaceful.
He commended the residents of Oyo State for heeding the advice of the performing governor by displaying a high sense of civility and decorum in the course of the protests.
As part of his birthday celebration, Segelu made take-away foods for over 2000 protesters while encouraging them to continue to remain peaceful in their agitation for good governance.
Hon. Olayinka Segelu expressed profound gratitude to Oyo State stakeholders, including his fellow party men and women, and all his admirers in the different social media platforms for their best wishes and goodwill messages on his birthday.
