The Oyo State Chairman of Poulty Farmers Association of Nigeria (PAN), Mr Omidokun Oyekunle has called on Nigerians to patronise local and responsible poultry farmers for their egg.
Oyekunle gave the advice during the celebration of 2024 World egg Day with the theme “United by Eggs” on Friday in Ibadan.
He said that the support of Nigerians for local farmers would promote food traceability, animal welfare and environmental stewardship.
The chairman, who saluted the farmers and producers for their dedication to delivering high-quality eggs, urged them to continue to embrace sustainable practices.
He further urged members of the association to prioritise animal welfare standard, enhanced food safety, quality control and increased access to eggs for vulnerable populations.
“Your hard work ensures the well-being of your animals, the environment, and our communities at large,” Oyekunle said.
The chairman said the celebration of World Egg Day was a testament to the power of eggs to unite, promote diiversity, provide essential nutrients and supports local economie among others.
He said that about 1.3 trillion eggs produced annually worldwide and while egg provide 14 per cent of the daily recommended protein intake,adding that the global egg industry supports over 100 million livelihoods. (End)
