A petrol tanker carrying 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) lost control and caught fire in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Sunday morning.

The incident occurred at Onipe Village, near Idi Ayunre, along the Ijebu Ode–Ibadan Road. Reports indicate that the tanker veered off the road into a bush, where it immediately burst into flames.

Confirming the incident, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, stated that no casualties were recorded.

“The fire was reported at exactly 08:05 AM on Sunday, March 9, 2025. Firefighters, led by ACFS Olubunmi, were swiftly dispatched to the scene,” Akinyinka said. “Upon arrival, they found the tanker engulfed in flames after it lost control and crashed into the forest. Our team quickly contained the fire using a foam chemical compound.”

He further acknowledged the presence of officers from the Nigerian police, Idi Ayunre Division, and members of the Agbekoya group, who provided security at the scene.

While the tanker was damaged, no lives were lost in the incident.
