The state Commissioner for Police, Emeka Nwonyi, in a statement on Saturday, confirmed how Angbanshin was killed when he led a team of operatives to raid some criminal hideouts in the area. Nwonyi narrated that while returning, gunmen suspected to be cultists ambushed them, and Angbanshin’s men retreated after running out of ammunition. He explained that the late DPO sustained fatal injuries and was captured by the gunmen who took him away to murder him.

According to a Punch report on Friday, a viral video surfaced showing Angbanshin’s head, hand, and private parts separated with several deep machete cuts. In the video, gunmen were reported to be chanting victory songs while one of the cultists beamed a torchlight on his face and said in Pidgin English, “DPO, finally na you be dis. Now, how far? “You (referring to Angnanshin) dey challenge Iceland. Who are those men? Iceland, are they dangerous?”

Reacting to the incident, the Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubari charged security agencies in the state to smoke out the killers of late SP Bako Angbashim. Governor Fubara, who spoke to journalists shortly after an emergency security council meeting at Government House, Port Harcourt on Sunday, described the incident as unfortunate and barbaric.

He sympathized with the Nigerian Police and the family of the slain officer and vowed to make Rivers State unsafe for criminal activities. “As a government, we will not rest until whoever is responsible for this act is brought to book,” the governor said.

Fubara placed a N100 million bounty on the killers of Divisional Police Officer Bako Angbashim in Odiemudie Community, Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state. It was gathered that Governor Fubara declared one Gift David Okpara Okpolowu, popularly known as 2-Baba, and all members of his criminal gang wanted for the murder of Angbashim.

The governor promised to give anyone with useful information that would lead to his arrest and prosecution the sum of N100 million. Meanwhile, with a bounty of N100 million on him, a photo of him reportedly surfaced on social media on Monday, even though its source could not be verified yet as of the time of filing this report.

The emergence of the photograph of Gift David Okpara Okpolowu, also known as 2-Baba, online has further intensified the search for the leader of the notorious Iceland Cult gang. The image, which allegedly captures 2-Baba in a moment of defiance and aggression, serves as a chilling reminder of the brutal murder of Divisional Police Officer Bako Angbashim.

The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, expressed shock and disgust at the heinous act committed by 2-Baba and his gang. Addressing journalists after an emergency security council meeting, Governor Fubara described the incident as “unfortunate and barbaric.” He extended his deepest condolences to the Nigerian Police and the grieving family of the late officer, promising that the government would not rest until justice was served.

Governor Fubara made a resolute proclamation, declaring that Rivers State would become an inhospitable territory for criminal activities. To demonstrate the seriousness of his resolve, he announced a staggering N100 million bounty for any information that leads to the arrest and prosecution of 2-Baba and his accomplices. The governor expressed his hope that this significant reward would incentivize individuals to come forward with crucial information that would expedite their capture.

In response to the bounty placed on his head, a photograph purportedly depicting 2-Baba has started circulating on social media platforms. The authenticity of the photo has yet to be verified, but it has nevertheless generated a frenzy of speculation and discussion within both online and offline communities.

As investigations into the murder of DPO Bako Angbashim continue, the Rivers State Police Command remains determined to bring the culprits to justice. Commissioner of Police Emeka Nwonyi reaffirmed this commitment, urging his officers to intensify efforts in their quest to dismantle the Iceland Cult gang. He emphasized that the security of the state and its residents was of paramount importance and called on members of the public to collaborate with the police by providing any useful information that could aid their investigation.

The people of Rivers State eagerly await the outcome of this manhunt, hoping that the capture and prosecution of 2-Baba and his gang will serve as a deterrent to other criminal elements within the state. In the meantime, the haunting image of 2-Baba in the circulated photograph serves as a stark reminder of the violence and brutality that has plagued the communities of Rivers State, igniting a fervor for justice and a call for increased security measures.
