The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended Kehinde Yemitan, a suspected murderer and ritualist, at his hideout in the Ilogbo Ota community. The arrest comes after the earlier detention of his twin brother, Taiwo Yemitan, and an accomplice, Kazeem, on December 22, 2024, in connection with the brutal murder and dismemberment of Darasimi, a commercial sex worker.
The victim was allegedly lured to the suspects’ residence in Abeokuta under false pretenses before being killed in what authorities suspect was a ritualistic act.
Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola disclosed in a statement on Tuesday that Kehinde was captured following a joint operation involving the police surveillance team and the So Safe Corps.
“After being identified as an accomplice, the team worked diligently to locate Kehinde, and intelligence on December 30, 2024, revealed his hiding spot. Officers from the Sango Ota Police Division moved swiftly and arrested him at around 5 p.m.,” Odutola said.
Kehinde allegedly admitted to conspiring with his brother and others to commit the crime. Community members also identified him as being involved in various criminal activities.
The Yemitan twins and Kazeem are accused of orchestrating Darasimi’s murder and dismemberment, believed to be for ritual purposes. Following Kehinde’s arrest, he was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
Odutola used the opportunity to warn young women about the dangers of engaging in casual relationships for financial gain, commonly referred to as “hookups.” She emphasized the risks involved, urging women to exercise caution and avoid situations that could make them vulnerable to harm.
“Let this serve as a lesson to young females about the perils of high-risk behaviors. Parents also need to educate their children on the dangers of prostitution and other unsafe practices,” she advised.
