Officials of the Nigerian Police and that of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), on Wednesday were involved in a disagreement over the presence of an NSCDC official carrying a gun at an event which had in attendance, wife of Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Mrs Elizabeth Egbetokun.
Mrs Egbetokun, was on a working visit to the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T), Moor Plantation, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Trouble started while officials of the NSCDC, some Police officers and staff of IAR&T were waiting for the arrival of Mrs Egbetokun.
A senior officer of the Police had approached the NSCDC officers who were attached to IAR&T and asked one of them to leave the premises because he was carrying a gun.
He stated that the NSCDC officer does not have the right to carry a gun at the venue of as the wife of the Inspector-General of the Police will be coming around and will be accompanied by top Police officers.
This led to altercation between the most senior NSCDC official at the scene and her Police counterpart, which caught the attention of people at the venue of the event and other passerby.
The tension, was later doused after the top Police officer had put a phone call through to another top officer briefing him of the incident.
