By Prof. Adeniyi Olowofela

The recent police questioning of Muheeba Dankaka, the Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, has sparked much controversy and debate. The crux of the issue seems to revolve around the varying names on her educational certificates. However, upon closer examination, it becomes clear that there is much ado about nothing.

The different names listed on Muheeba Dankaka’s certificates are all variations of her true identity. Her father’s name, Salawu, is sometimes pronounced or written as Salau. Her given name, Muibat, may also be written as Muiba or Muheeba. Lastly, her middle name, Adenike, can sometimes be shortened to Nike. These variations in spelling and pronunciation are not uncommon and do not cast doubt on the authenticity of her credentials.

Additionally, it is important to note that after marriage, it is customary for women to adopt their husband’s family name. Hence, Dankaka is Muheeba’s married name, which further explains the variations in her identification.

To put this situation into perspective, let us consider the renowned Nigerian playwright and Nobel laureate, Akinwande Oluwole Babatunde Soyinka, better known as Wole Soyinka. Throughout his career, has anyone ever raised concerns or filed a complaint about his name? The answer is a resounding no. Variations in names are not unusual, and it is the true identity behind these variations that matter.

It is evident that the individuals behind the petition are not only mischievous but also interfering in matters that are inconsequential. Muheeba Dankaka’s identity is clear, and her credentials are unquestionably legitimate. We must avoid getting caught up in the storm of trivialities and focus on the more significant issues at hand.
