Popular Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, has declared that he is a “mad man” undergoing treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta.
Portable made this statement on Tuesday while addressing Nigerians and appealing to the Ogun State Government after being declared wanted by the state police command.
The controversy stems from an alleged altercation involving the singer and officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Ota Zonal Office. The officials—identified as TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi—were reportedly conducting an enforcement exercise at Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota, Ogun State, when they encountered an elderly man later identified as Portable’s father at Odogwu Bar.
According to reports, the officials requested the approved building plan for a property, but Portable’s father informed them that his son was unavailable. Shortly after, Portable allegedly arrived at the scene, armed with a firearm and accompanied by nine thugs, launching an attack on the unarmed officials.
The police reported that the enforcement officers sustained injuries but managed to escape and later reported the incident to the Ota Area Command, which escalated the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department. While nine of Portable’s alleged accomplices were arrested, the singer himself fled the scene and remains in hiding.
In response to the police declaration, Portable took to Instagram in a series of rants, claiming that he was being targeted due to his association with Senator Adeola Solomon, popularly known as Yayi. He further stated that he is mentally ill and receives treatment at Aro Hospital, where he holds a medical card as proof of his condition.
“I fear the government. I am a federal government liability. I am a mad man; I take medication. You can confirm from Aro Hospital—I have a card that certifies me as one of their patients,” Portable said.
The singer also defended himself, insisting that he is not a criminal but someone who helps people in need without discrimination.
