Professor Dahud Shangodoyin, Oyo State Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, joined other dignitaries on Tuesday to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Parrot Xtra Hour, a popular radio show hosted by Ambassador Olayinka Agboola. The show airs on Splash 105.5 FM in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Prof. Shangodoyin, who was the celebrity guest on the day’s episode, expressed his delight at being part of the milestone celebration. He also offered prayers for the continued success of Parrot Xtra Media Network, Splash 105.5 FM, and its sister station, Lagelu 96.7 FM.
“I am thrilled to be here today to mark this special occasion. I vividly recall being the first guest on the show five years ago when I served as Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology. I pray that the Almighty continues to sustain Parrot Xtra Media Network and the radio stations owned by our father, Oba Adebayo Akande,” he said.
In his response, Ambassador Agboola, the brain behind the show, thanked the commissioner and his team for their support and presence at the event.
“We are deeply honored that you joined us to celebrate this milestone. This gesture means a lot to us. I also use this opportunity to commend Governor ‘Seyi Makinde’s administration for the remarkable transformation in Oyo State, particularly in infrastructure development,” Agboola remarked.
He explained the decision to mark the fifth anniversary in a modest manner, noting that a grand celebration is planned for May 5, which will also coincide with the 20th anniversary of Parrot Xtra Magazine and PMParrot.com, as well as his 60th birthday.
Reflecting on his journey as a media entrepreneur, Agboola highlighted the unique model of his media business.
“It has been challenging navigating this industry, but God has been our pillar. We are proud to say that our approach to using radio to generate content for both our magazine and online platform is unparalleled in Nigeria. After our live interviews, we transcribe and publish them on our website and in our magazine. To God be the glory,” he said.
Agboola also expressed gratitude to his team, partners, and supporters, including Prince Wale Michael of Online Dynamix for the customized anniversary cake and Mrs. Omolola Benedict Ojo for providing refreshments.
The event, which featured the cutting of the anniversary cake, was attended by notable personalities, including Dr. Taiwo Lasisi, Acting Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan; Chief Babatunde Tijani; and Engineer Rauf Amoo, alongside directors from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.
Parrot Xtra Hour/Ayekooto airs live every Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Splash 105.5 FM.
