The Kaaro Oojiire Omo Oodua Foundation (KOOOF) has issued a strong condemnation of a recent video released by Nigerian musician Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable. In the video, Portable made disparaging and defamatory remarks about his estranged girlfriend, Queen Dammy, a former wife of the late Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Asiwaju Olú Mayungbe, KOOOF described Portable’s claims as “frivolous, egregious, and preposterous.” The organization noted that the statements not only insult the late revered monarch but also tarnish the dignity of Yoruba culture and heritage.
KOOOF’s Demands
KOOOF demanded that Portable take the following actions immediately:
1. Issue a public apology: Portable must tender an unreserved apology to the Yoruba people, traditional rulers, the Alaafin’s chiefs, the Oyomesi council, and the late monarch’s family across all social media platforms and in newspapers.
2. Withdraw the defamatory video: Portable must remove the offensive video from all his social media platforms.
The foundation warned that failure to comply with these demands could result in further actions, emphasizing that the video has the potential to incite unrest, particularly in the southwestern region of Nigeria.
Call for Action
KOOOF also urged Nigerian authorities to take necessary measures against Portable for his malicious statements, noting that such actions undermine the respect and sanctity of Yoruba traditional institutions.
The organization reaffirmed its commitment to preserving and protecting Yoruba culture, tradition, and heritage, stating that it would not tolerate any attempts to demean or dishonor the legacy of the late Alaafin of Oyo.
