The stoppage of works on the Olorunsogo-Akanran road in Nigeria has left motorists, commuters, and residents frustrated and concerned, particularly with the onset of the rainy season.
The contractor responsible for the dual carriage way has been accused of dereliction of duty, leading to fears of experiencing further difficulties this year.
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) announced that on February 20th, 2024, the federal government will release the annual Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP).
The SCP provides important climate and weather data to various sectors of the economy, including aviation, agriculture, construction, water resource management, and healthcare.
For motorists traveling along the Olorunsogo-Akanran road, the lack of progress on the construction has resulted in daily nightmares. Frustrated individuals are questioning the State Government’s commitment to holding the contractor accountable for the delay. Despite the road being awarded over two years ago, the work has not reached an acceptable level, leading to speculation that the contractor is not adequately fulfilling their responsibilities.
The challenges faced by commuters and motorists on the road are significant. Accidents occur due to numerous potholes, especially near the Amuloko end leading to Akanran community. The State Government is being urged to ensure the contractor fast-tracks the project before the rainy season begins.
While the Seyi Makinde-led administration’s plan to dualize the road is seen as commendable, the lackluster work and occasional abandonment by the contractor are causing frustration. Residents are appealing to the Governor to intervene and ensure the contractor completes the project to a high standard, ensuring its durability and quality.
