The Rotary Club of Ibadan, one of Nigeria’s leading humanitarian organizations, recently celebrated its 120th anniversary with a grand ceremony recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to society.

At the event, held at the club’s headquarters in Iyaganku, Ibadan, renowned philanthropist, medical practitioner, and businessman, Dr. Abib Olamitoye, received the prestigious Rotary Icon of Humanity Service award. Dr. Olamitoye, the founder of Ibadan Central Hospital, was honored for his remarkable dedication to healthcare, education, and poverty alleviation.

Speaking at the ceremony, the club’s president, Rotn. Abiodun Ajayi, PHF, highlighted the importance of the award, stating:

“For 120 years, Rotary International has led humanitarian efforts globally, and the Rotary Club of Ibadan has remained a pillar of hope in our community. We are proud to celebrate this milestone by recognizing individuals like Dr. Olamitoye, whose work embodies our mission of service.”

Dr. Olamitoye has played a transformative role in Nigeria’s healthcare sector through his network of hospitals, making quality medical services more accessible. His contributions to education are equally commendable, with numerous scholarship initiatives supporting underprivileged students.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Olamitoye expressed gratitude for the recognition, reaffirming his commitment to service:

“This award is not just for me, but for everyone dedicated to making society better. Service to humanity is the highest calling, and I remain committed to contributing in any way I can.”

As one of Nigeria’s oldest Rotary clubs, the Rotary Club of Ibadan joined its global counterparts in marking Rotary International’s 120th anniversary. The club has remained at the forefront of community service, championing healthcare initiatives, educational sponsorships, and economic empowerment programs.
