The Rotary Family Health Days (RFHD) initiative has made significant strides in improving healthcare access for thousands of residents in Oyo State through a series of comprehensive medical outreach programs.
This year’s event, which received endorsement from the Oyo State Primary Healthcare Board, took place at multiple Primary Healthcare (PHC) centers and emphasized critical health services along with community engagement. The first day of the outreach coincided with World Polio Day, featuring a polio immunization awareness walk across all participating centers.
Outreach activities unfolded at key locations, including the Ido PHC in Ido Local Government Area, Odo Ona Kekere PHC in Oluyole LGA, Ajorosun LCDA PHC in Egbeda LGA, and the C&S Church in Isale Osun, located in Iware Town, Afijio LGA.
In collaboration with Planned Parenthood and Family Planning of Nigeria (PPFN), the initiative offered essential services such as family planning consultations, as well as screenings for breast cancer, cervical cancer, and prostate cancer for men over 40.
Rotary family members, led by Zonal Coordinator Rotn Abiola Ogunbanwo, reported that over 3,000 residents were screened for various health conditions during the outreach. Notably, all services and medications were provided free of charge, demonstrating Rotary’s unwavering commitment to enhancing community health.
A number of Rotary clubs participated in this initiative, including the RC Ibadan Ring Road, RC Ibadan Jericho Metro, RC Oluyole Estate, and RC Iyaganku, among others. The Iware community benefited from support from clubs such as RC Oyo Metro, RC Ibadan-Akobo, and RC Ibadan-Gold. In Egbeda LGA, the Ajorosun LCDA PHC received contributions from clubs such as RC Ibadan West, RC Ibadan-Oritamefa, and RC Ibadan Pathfinder.
Rotn Ogunbanwo emphasized the importance of collaboration in improving healthcare access and raising awareness about vital health issues. “By providing essential health services and fostering community engagement, the Rotary clubs are making a lasting impact on the quality of life for residents in Oyo State,” he stated.
